Centennial

Calling all Scouters!  Contribute to a 100 Year Legacy

Any one with a Scouting story to tell is invited to contribute to this project.  As part of the Boy Scouts Centennial Celebration in 2010, the Burlington County Council is creating a time capsule for the Scouters of 2060, to be opened on the 150th anniversary of Scouting in America.

Your part is to help us collect items that are significant to you and may be of interest to people in 2060.  Some of the items we’d like to collect include stories about your experience in Scouting, photos of memorable events, or badges you have earned.  Since we need these items to last 50 years, we can only accept artifacts that meet the following criteria:

  • Specifically represent your unit, district or the Council and not be a generic BSA supply item
  • Take up very little space within our small 16”L x 18”W x 7”H box
  • Not be perishable or contain toxic or living materials (food, plants or chemicals)
  • Be accompanied with a brief description of what it is and why it is relevant
  • Be printed on archival quality paper (acid-free, lignin-free, buffered), which will be available at the Scout store
  • Labeled with a permanent marker or with pencil (including photos)
  • Not be mounted, laminated, permanently enclosed in a manila folder or a craft envelope, or bound with staples, paper clips, or rubber bands

Time capsule items may be dropped off at the Rowan Scout Resource Center (693 Rancocas Road in Westampton) between January 1, 2010 and December 1, 2010.  Start thinking about your story or your contribution now to be sure to have your special item enclosed.  Due to space and other restrictions, we cannot guarantee that all submissions will be included.

Join in the celebration of the BSA’s biggest milestone yet, our 100th Anniversary. For nearly 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has taught timeless values, strengthened leadership skills, and guided America's youth on their journey to adulthood. We hope to inspire the young leaders of 2060 ...and you can help!
