This July the Burlington County Council will once again participate in the Burlington County Farm Fair from Wednesday July 21 to Saturday 24 at the Lumberton Fair Grounds off of Routes 38 and 541. Each year nearly 300 scouts, scouters, parents and other volunteers participate in this annual event by running the parking and doing the setup, cooking, serving and cleanup for five concession booths.
The proceeds generated from our activities at Farm Fair support the scouting program in Burlington County. The Campership Fund is one of the many programs that benefits from this income. Annually the Burlington County Council is able to give Camperships to scouts in need so that they are able to attend camp. We ask you to particuarly encourage campership recipients and their families to participate to reinforce the message that “a scout pays his own way.”

Boy Scouts of America
Grand Centennial Parade
The National Council and National Capital Area Council are co-hosting the BSA Grand Centennial Parade! It will march in Washington, D. C., on Sunday, July 25 – just one day before the 2010 National Scout Jamboree begins at nearby Fort A.P. Hill, Va.
Not only are we celebrating our 100th Anniversary, but because of the historical significance and contributions that the BSA has made to the fabric of American society, our centennial parade is being permitted to march down Constitution Avenue. Not since 1937 have the Boy Scouts of America enjoyed this distinction.
We are looking to make up a parade contingent comprised of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venture Scouts. Each group has a total of 20 participants marching (2 must be adults) and 1 participant carrying the council flag.
The cost to participate is sixty ($60.00) dollars per person.
Every participant – youth and adult – will receive a Centennial Celebration packet to remember their part in this historic day.
If you or youth from your unit would like to participate, print out and complete the registration form and return to The Rowan Service Center.
At least one parent may go with their Scout to this event to participate in the Parade reviewing area. (Seats will be available as contingent is selected)
QUALIFICATIONS TO PARTICIPATE
- Each participant must wear the Official BSA Field Uniform (Class “A”) complete as described in the BSA Insignia Guide, during travel to and from Washington, D.C. and during the parade staging and marching.
- All patches and insignia worn on the uniform must be in the correct place in accordance with the BSA Insignia Guide.
- Each participant will be asked to write a sentence or two as to why they would like to represent Burlington County Council at this event. All prospective participants will be interviewed (with full uniform) and will be notified if selected.
Payment for this spectacular event must be made within five (5) days of being notified that you have been selected.
- Deadline for registration for this event will be Tuesday May 25, 2010 at 4:30 PM either by web registration or the form received in the Council Service Center by that time.

Kodiak is a leadership development course offered to all Boy Scouts and Venturers (ages 14+), regardless of position or past experience. And no, it’s not just learning in the woods. In fact, only about one to two hours a day is spent on leadership development. The rest of the time you’re enjoying the beauty of Southern New Jersey.
Your adventure begins the first weekend with a barbeque with your fellow Venturers. After your delicious meal you start your journey into the mysterious New Jersey Pine Barrens. You will spend two days meandering down the Mullica River, stopping overnight for a good night’s rest. You will then visit the historic Batsto Village. You will also have time to sit back along the tidal waters and watch the boats go by while the sun sets into the forest.
In your second weekend, get ready for an exciting competition as our teams compete in the “Battle of the Bikes!” You will trek on your mountain bike deep into the Pines, and you may even encounter the legendary Jersey Devil! After your cycling adventure, you will hike North until you reach the summit of your experience.
Don’t miss out on the most exciting Venturing activity of the year! Sign up and join us, you’ll be glad you did!
Please note: Attendance at both weekends is required for participation. For more information, please contact Dom DiGioia at dominick.digioia@bccventuring.org or Nick Nowak at nnowak@bsamail.org or 60-261-5850.
