National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

WHAT IS NYLT? The National Youth Leader Training Course is an intense seven-day outdoor experience for present and future Youth Leaders. They will be living the Team Method, practicing outdoor skills and learning advanced leadership and planning skills in an intense team-building atmosphere under the guidance of a well-trained staff. The Council Leadership Training Committee will supervise it using the latest National Youth Leadership Training syllabus approved by the Boy Scouts of America.
WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE? Scouting recognizes that Scoutmasters/Advisors have the responsibility of training their own youth in being better unit leaders and in maintaining a youth-run Scouting Program. The purpose of this Course is not to assume that role, but to support it.
The major objectives of the Course are as follows:
To help participants gain the confidence and knowledge to run the Unit’s program.
To provide participants with a clear understanding of team and personal development.
To teach and practice key leadership skills and relate these skills to the participant’s unit responsibilities.
To give participants the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences.
Give each participant a varied experience with emphasis on the team method and new ways to teach skills in a fun atmosphere back in their home unit.
To create an atmosphere where participants will experience Scouting at its best.
To enhance the relationship between the participants and their Scoutmaster/Advisor.
To have fun and experience Scouting at its best.
